Community Invited to Celebrate Villagio Apartments

MISSOULA – Tuesday, October 1, 2024 – Nearly a year has passed since Missoula Housing Authority (MHA) completed the Villagio Apartments, one of the state’s largest affordable housing developments. To commemorate these 200 safe and affordable homes opened in 2023, MHA will host a celebration on Monday, Oct. 7, from 3 - 4:30 p.m. at 1140 Otis Street.

Free and open to the public, the event will include a short program, a tour of a four-bedroom apartment, and refreshments.

The program will include remarks from Andrea Davis, Mayor, City of Missoula; Missoula County Commissioners Josh Slotnick and Juanita Vero; Bill Ryan, Education Coordinator for Dick Anderson Construction; Jackie Girard, Montana State Director for U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development; residents of Villagio Apartments, and MHA staff.

Villagio serves 200 mixed-income family households with incomes between 30% - 60% of area median income (AMI), translating to $25,900 - $51,840/annually or up to $24.92 an hour for a family of four. Nearly half of all Villagio residents are considered very low-income. Rents for the 2-, 3-, and 4-bedroom units range from $1,062 to $1,353.

“I am incredibly proud of the Villagio Apartments. The foresight of the Missoula Housing Authority, our partners, and our City/County officials helped bring this project to our city at a crucial time,” Executive Director Sam Oliver said.  “While none of us could have seen the far-reaching effects of the pandemic when we started this project, we delivered safe and affordable homes for hundreds of Missoulians in the most challenging of times. We hope to use Villagio as a template for continued success as we aim to increase our affordable housing stock in Missoula.”

Missoula Housing Authority’s Villagio Apartments are fully occupied as of early August 2024 and home to nearly 600 Missoulians, including 300 children.
