MHA’s Villagio Apartments Are Fully Occupied

Nearly 600 Missoulians, including 300 children have a safe and affordable home at Villagio Apartments in Missoula’s Northside neighborhood.

MISSOULA – Tuesday, August 27, 2024 – Missoula Housing Authority’s Villagio Apartments are fully occupied as of early August 2024. MHA began work on Villagio in 2018 in response to a severe affordable housing drought in Missoula. Leading up to the completion of Villagio, the City of Missoula was averaging 200 affordable units a decade and was significantly outpaced by the rising need.

In coordination with many local and state agencies, Villagio Apartments completed construction in 2023 producing the equivalent of more than a decade’s supply of Affordable housing for Missoula built in a single year and one of the state’s largest affordable housing developments.

“We are pleased to announce that the Villagio Apartments reached full occupancy earlier this month. Nearly six hundred Missoulians have moved into brand new, safe, and affordable homes at Villagio,” said MHA Executive Director Sam Oliver.

The affordable homes serve 200 mixed-income family households with incomes between 30% - 60% of area median income (AMI), translating to $25,900 - $51,840/annually or up to $24.92 an hour for a family of four. Nearly half of all Villagio residents are considered very low-income. Rents for the 2-, 3-, and 4-bedroom units range from $1,062 to $1,353.

“Through thoughtful design, we have offered larger unit sizes to help compensate for the lack of affordable family housing in our community," executive director Sam Oliver said. "With nearly 300 children living at Villagio, the goal of providing housing stability for families has been realized. The Missoula Housing Authority is proud to present Villagio as a cornerstone to thoughtful development on Missoula’s Northside.”

“Being accepted to the Villagio apartments affordable housing has been such a blessing for my children and me. They have been through so much for their age and having a secure place they can call home will help them so much, not to mention their own bedrooms,” added a father of two and resident of Villagio. “Our situation is a day-by-day journey, and we do our very best. Hopefully, they will start to get comfortable and with Headstart nearby they will love school. Thank the gals at MHA and the Villagio Apartments so much!”

Save the date for Monday, October 07, from 3-4:30 p.m. to commemorate these 200 safe, healthy, and affordable homes. MHA will host a celebration open to the public at Villagio Apartments located at 1140 Otis Street.
